Zajedničko otvoreno pismo o potrebi objave zakonodavnog okvira EU za održive prehrambene sustave prije isteka mandata Europske Komisije

Poštovana predsjednice von der Leyen,
mi, dolje potpisane organizacije i ugledni akademici, još jednom pozivamo da osigurate da se ambiciozan prijedlog zakonodavnog okvira EU-a za održive prehrambene sustave predstavi prije kraja mandata vaše Komisije.
U svjetlu nadolazećih europskih izbora, želimo izraziti našu krajnju zabrinutost u vezi kašnjenja bitnih politika povezanih s prioritetnim obvezama u vašem mandatu, posebno onih iz Europskog zelenog plana koji obećava isporuku zdrave i priuštive hrane građanima EU-a.
Pozivamo vas da se oduprete pogrešnim i kratkovidnim pozivima na regulatornu stanku u zelenoj agendi Komisije i krenete prema planu s objavljivanjem prijedloga zakonodavnog okvira EU za održive prehrambene sustave (
Sustainable Food Systems -FSFS). Očekujemo da ova inicijativa zauzme istaknuto mjesto u vašem Pismu namjere o stanju Unije koje će odrediti prioritete Komisije za ostatak njezina mandata.
FSFS je vodeći model Strategije „Od polja do stola“ (F2F) i središnji dio samog Europskog zelenog plana. Neobjavljivanje ovog zakona značit će neuspjeh u ispunjavanju ciljeva za klimu, okoliš i zdravlje EU-a. EU je postavila cilj smanjenja emisija stakleničkih plinova (GHG) za 55% do kraja desetljeća i ostvarenje klimatske neutralnosti do 2050. U tijeku je rad na postavljanju posrednog cilja smanjenja stakleničkih plinova za 2040. Prehrambene tvrtke, trgovci, poljoprivrednici, potrošači i kreatori politika trebaju FSFS kao omogućavajući politički okvir koji će ih osnažiti da odigraju svoju ulogu u tranziciji poljoprivredno-prehrambenog sektora, što je ključno za postizanje klimatskih ciljeva EU-a.
Isto tako, neuspjeh u davanju prioriteta prijelazu na zdrava prehrambena okruženja i prehranu unatoč njihovom poznatom kritičnom doprinosu prevenciji nezaraznih bolesti značit će neuspjeh bitnih zdravstvenih politika kao što je Europski plan za pobjedu protiv raka.
Znanstveni dokazi jasno podupiru hitnost transformacije našeg prehrambenog sustava prema održivijem i zdravijem, unutar planetarnih granica. Europska komisija mora držati ekološku i društvenu održivost, kao i dobrobit životinja, u središtu političke rasprave oko hrane, poljoprivrede i ribarstva. Predstojeći izazovi nisu mali, a cijena nedjelovanja u pogledu gubitka bioraznolikosti, ekstremnih vremenskih prilika i posljedične štete u poljoprivrednoj produktivnosti, zajedno s porastom nezaraznih bolesti, nije priuštiva.
Potičemo vas da ostanete pri svojoj predanosti prehrambenom sustavu u skladu sa zaštitom okoliša i životinja, te poštenom i zdravom, kako je navedeno u Strategiji F2F i predstavite ambiciozan prijedlog FSFS-a što je prije moguće.
