During June, we organized the third workshop as part of the project “Wildlife Watch – increasing capacities for the sustainable use and monitoring of wildlife”. The theme of the workshop was “Birds”. It was attended by thirty representatives of our partners from the public institutions Northern Velebit National Park, Paklenica National Park, Velebit Nature Park, Grabovača Cave Park and the association Lička ekološka akcija.
During the first day the participants learned, through a series of lectures, about birds in general, monitoring, birdwatching tourism and equipment used in bird research (Vedran Lucić, BIOM). Also, employees from the Nature Park Velebit, Tomislav Rukavina and Josip Tomaić, gave a lecture about the monitoring of capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus). Dr.sc. Gordan Lukač from Paklenica National Park presented the results of bird monitoring in the park.
During the second day, the participants spent a day in Paklenica National Park and with the help of professional ornithologists learned how to recognize around 20 bird species.
We would like to thank all participants of the workshop, as well as the Paklenica National Park for their hospitality!
