In the coming weeks, the European Commission is scheduled to publish its conclusion on the so-called “fitness check” of the Nature Directives. So now is the time to remind Commissioner Vella, and his 27 Commissioner colleagues, that EU citizens believe the Directives are fit for purpose, and we want to see concrete action.
Once the “fitness check” is published, the Commission needs to work on a clear way forward – a proposal for full implementation of the laws. So join our Thunderclap on May 16th at 12.00; call on Vella to go from #NatureAlert to Action.
Last year the #NatureAlert campaign mobilised over 520,000 people to express their support for the Nature Directives. This was a powerful message to Vella and his team. In December, this was echoed by EU environment ministers meeting in Council, and then by the European Parliament in February. The ministers and Parliament both agreed full implementation of the Nature Directives is key to achieving the targets of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020.
So be #NatureAlert and support the call on May 16th!
