Second „Ornithological meeting“ in Kopačevo

BIOM staff and members spent the weekend of December 9 to 11 2016 in Kopačevo on the second „Ornithological meeting“, this time organised by the Croatian Society for the Bird and Nature Protection (HDZPP). The meeting was held as part of the “Adriatic Flyway 3″ project financed by the Euronatur foundation, with the goal connecting people who work in bird research and conservation in Croatia.
Apart from the professional participants, students of the University of Osijek and the Faculty of Science in Zagreb also participated as well as participants of the recently finished Training of common bird species identification (BirdID), to get familiar with the possibilities of working with birds in Croatia.
The first part of the meeting was about reviewing what was done with birds throughout 2016 – from various surveys and monitoring programs to educations theses. The second part of presented plans for 2017, from new monitoring programs, various applications for recording observations, ringing and data analysis to using new technologies for bird research. The presentations were concluded by a pleasant travelogue by Davorka Kitonić from the association „Vodomar“.
The practical part of the meeting included an introduction to working with the new software for bird banding as well as a morning walk and birdwatch in the nice winter weather through the Kopački rit Nature Park, which concluded the meeting.31268909760_a4295b3fba_o
