Birds using medium-voltage power distribution network poles to rest, monitor terrain or nest occasionally suffer electrocution. We seek ways to mitigate the issue through our cooperation with the national energy company.
This project strives to mitigate the issue of bird electrocution on medium-voltage powerlines. In cooperation with the national energy company, HEP ODS d.o.o., we investigate where the problems occur and which birds are affected, and with that in mind, we propose areas and measures to prevent bird electrocution, such as burying powerlines or isolating individual network elements. We also advocate for higher standards in powerline planning and design and work on sharing experiences and best practices within the region to reduce bird electrocution on powerlines.
