Thanks to the efforts of 101 volunteers, we successfully completed the first part of this year’s monitoring of the eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) in Croatia. During the monitoring, the volunteers visited 111 locations favourable for the nesting of eagle-owls, and the presence of the owls was confirmed at 69 locations, which makes up to 62 percent of the locations visited.
44 locations were visited in the continental part of Croatia, 37 locations in the area of Istria and Kvarner, and 30 locations in Dalmatia.
This year the monitoring goals will be different – for the first time the monitoring of nesting success will also be carried out. This means that in the second part of this year’s monitoring season, locations where the presence of the species has been confirmed will be visited and it will be determined whether the song of newly hatched owlets can be heard from the nests.
